What Rotary does

Rotary works locally and internationally — through community projects, development programmes, initiatives for young people, cooperation between clubs and grants from The Rotary Foundation. Below we show the most important areas of that work and the opportunities open to clubs, their members and local communities.

Avenues of service

The five avenues of service

The Five Avenues of Service show how Rotarians turn Rotary's values into concrete action: in the club, in their profession, in the local community and in international cooperation.

Club service

Focuses on strengthening the sense of community among members and the effectiveness of the club's own work.

Vocational service

Encourages helping others through one's own profession and keeping to the highest ethical standards.

Community service

Covers the club's projects undertaken to improve living conditions in the local community.

International service

Builds cooperation between people and clubs from different countries and supports international understanding, goodwill and peace.

Service to future generations

Supports the growth of young people through leadership, community projects, exchanges and Rotary's youth programmes.

Programmes

Initiatives for young people

Rotary creates space for young people to grow, to lead, to work for their community and to get to know the world.

Interact

Clubs for young people aged 12 to 18, founded and supported by Rotary clubs. There are 14,911 of them in 145 countries, with 342,953 members.

Rotaract

Clubs for people aged 18 and over, combining community projects with professional development and leadership.

Youth exchange

Students aged 15 to 19 travel to another country — for a full school year or for a short stay of a few days to three months. Exchanges are run by Rotary clubs in more than 100 countries.

RYLA seminars

Seminars that build leadership skills, confidence and the ability to work with others. For young people aged 14 to 30.

Grants and funding

The Rotary Foundation

The Rotary Foundation supports club projects through district and global grants. Thanks to them local ideas can gain wider reach, partners and the funding needed to carry them out.

The Rotary Foundation

The fund Rotarians give to voluntarily, and from which grants for club projects are financed.

Grants

Two kinds — they differ in scale. District grants fund small, short activities, at home and abroad. Global grants fund large international undertakings with a lasting and measurable effect. A club applies for a grant, usually together with a club from another country.

Scholarships and vocational training

The Rotary Foundation also supports educational, scholarship and development programmes, including work connected with peace, training and the exchange of professional experience.

Rotary's seven areas of focus

Rotary concentrates its work on the areas where it can achieve the greatest and most lasting effect. It is around them that the projects supported by The Rotary Foundation, global grants among them, take shape.

  • Promoting peace
  • Fighting disease
  • Providing clean water and sanitation
  • Protecting mothers and children
  • Supporting education
  • Growing local economies
  • Protecting the environment

Projects that fit these areas can draw on the experience, the partnerships and the grant mechanisms of The Rotary Foundation.

PolioPlus — Rotary's longest campaign

Wiping out the polio virus is Rotary's most important goal. The PolioPlus programme funds vaccination drives and supports education and research on defeating the disease. Rotary has given more than US$2.9 billion in PolioPlus grants, and vaccination has reached more than 3 billion children in 122 countries. The wild polio virus is still found in two countries: Afghanistan and Pakistan.

And what does our Club do?

Rotary Club Warszawa-Belweder runs its own initiatives and projects, drawing on the experience, the programmes and the international network of Rotary. Our work so far has included social aid, support for people with disabilities, work for children and young people, and help for Ukraine.

We act together with Club members, partners and people who get involved in particular initiatives. In the same way we invite you to help create the projects that come next.
