Activities

Our work

We support children and young people, people with disabilities, refugees and migrants, and those affected by the war in Ukraine. We act on our own and together with Rotary partners and social organisations.

Right now

What we are working on now

We are developing new activities and partnerships meant to answer current social needs and to draw on the international Rotary network. Some initiatives are already being prepared, others we are developing together with partners in Poland and abroad.

Working with Ashoka Polska

The Ashoka logo — a tree and the word ASHOKA

Rotary Club Warszawa-Belweder has begun working with Ashoka Polska, helping to find and recommend candidates for the international Ashoka Fellows network.

The cooperation is part of Ashoka's wider work on building a community of social leaders in Ukraine. The organisation wants to draw on the experience of its global network of thousands of social entrepreneurs in order to support people who create lasting, systemic solutions to social problems, and to strengthen civil society in the rebuilding and development of Ukraine.

Our Club's role is to use its own network of contacts, the experience of its members and its relationships in Poland and Ukraine to identify people whose work may meet the Ashoka Fellows criteria.

We look above all for leaders who not only run worthwhile projects, but create solutions that can be developed and replicated, who have the potential to bring about lasting social change and who can bring others together around their ideas.

The Club's recommendation is the beginning of the process. Candidates then go through a multi-stage assessment run by Ashoka, covering an analysis of their work, interviews, and an appraisal of their impact and their potential to create systemic change.

TeenSoNa — support for teenagers in everyday difficulties

Rotary Club Warszawa-Belweder works with the Jobian Social Foundation on the development of TeenSoNa — a multilingual tool that supports teenagers aged 10–16 in coping with everyday social and emotional situations.

TeenSoNa grew out of an idea by Mark Chubenko, who at twelve had to leave Ukraine after the war began and start his life and schooling in a new country. From his own experience he saw how hard it is for teenagers to find their place in a new environment, to understand social relationships and to ask for help. In 2024 he began work on the project, and in 2026 the earlier Telegram prototype grew into a standalone Android application.

The application leads a young person through real situations from six areas of life: home, school, the internet, relationships with peers, first romantic relationships and their own emotions. The user does not have to describe their problem — they pick situations from ready-made options and then receive several possible ways of responding, together with the likely consequences.

The content is prepared and checked by child psychologists. The project deliberately does not use generative AI to produce advice for young people, contains no adult–child chats and was designed with the emphasis on anonymity and on users' safety.

The current version runs on Android and supports four languages: English, Polish, Ukrainian and Russian.

The next stage includes developing the content, school pilots, measuring well-being with WHO-5 and preparing an iOS version.

LanGuide — language, integration and new social roles

Rotary Club Warszawa-Belweder, together with the Ukraińska Wspólnota Foundation, supports the development of the LanGuide model — an innovative approach in which blind and partially sighted people act as language and social guides for migrants and refugees from Ukraine.

The project draws on the strengths of people with a visual impairment, among them a well-developed ear for phonetics and experience of working with audio tools, in order to support participants not only in learning Polish, but also in better understanding the culture, everyday situations and life in a new setting. At the same time blind and partially sighted people gain the chance to develop new skills, to take a greater part in social life and to build a career.

Educational materials have already been produced, language and social guides trained, and courses run for refugees from Ukraine. In the Language Guides for a Good Start project, more than 50 people from Ukraine received support and 8 new guides with a visual impairment were trained.

The next stage is to develop the model in several directions: training new language and social guides, creating the digital LanGuides 2.0 courses, testing new educational materials and building a wider ecosystem for the activation and employment of people with disabilities. The project also envisages further promotion of a model of mutual support between two groups at risk of social exclusion.

In their new form the courses are to combine learning Polish with cultural, psychological and digital elements and to use modern ICT tools to create more interactive ways of learning.

2023–2025

What the club did in recent years

Because of the war in Ukraine and because citizens of Ukraine living in Poland joined the Club, a substantial part of the initiatives undertaken in 2023–2025 was naturally connected with helping people affected by the war.

The Club's work concentrated above all on supporting migrants and refugees from Ukraine staying in Poland, as well as people and institutions needing help in Ukraine itself. Many of these initiatives came about thanks to the personal involvement of Club members and to cooperation with other Rotary clubs, social organisations and partners.

Humanitarian aid for Ukraine

In October 2024 Rotary Club Warszawa-Belweder, together with Rotary Club Pyvden’ New Level, organised a shipment of humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

The shipment was possible thanks to the involvement of Rotarians and of the people and partners who took part in collecting, preparing and handing over the gifts.

It is an example of cooperation across borders, thanks to which the help could reach those in need directly.

Supporting the mobility of young people from Ukraine

In 2024 the Club joined an initiative supporting talented and socially active young people from Ukraine living in Warsaw.

As part of the campaign, public transport tickets were funded to make it easier for young people to get to classes, meetings and development activities every day.

The initiative was started by Kira Sukhoboychenko of the Międzynarodowy Ruch Latających Plecaczków / Flying Bag Foundation. Support also came from Rotarians and Rotary clubs, among them Barbara Gryglaszewski of Anaheim Rotary, Stanisław Rotnicki of Rotary Club Warszawa-Belweder and Rotary Club Warsaw International.

A million reflectors for children in Ukraine

In 2024 the Club supported the “1,000,000 Reflectors for Ukrainian Children” initiative, whose aim was to make children in Ukraine safer on roads and streets, especially in poor light and during ongoing hostilities.

The campaign was the idea of Kira Sukhoboychenko, founder of the Międzynarodowy Ruch Latających Plecaczków / Flying Bag Foundation. It came about as an answer to the real needs of schools and families in Ukraine — after air-raid alerts and lessons that finish late, children often walk home after dark.

The initiative was also supported by Kato Katouh Takehiko, Rotary governor in Japan for the 2024/2025 term, who learned about the project during a visit to Warsaw and declared his backing for work on the safety of children in Ukraine.

Help after the flood in southern Poland

In September 2024, after the flood in the area of Lądek-Zdrój in Kłodzko County, the club joined the relief effort organised by RC Gorzów Wielkopolski.

A workshop on peace and mediation

On 25 September 2024 the club took part in the “Minorities for peace” workshop at the Warsaw Multicultural Centre — on peacebuilding and mediation in local communities.

Support for children who lost their loved ones

In the autumn of 2024 the Club joined an initiative for children from Ukraine who lost their father or other closest family members in the war.

For St Nicholas' Day, individual parcels of presents were prepared for them. Each one was put together with a particular child and their needs in mind.

The campaign had both a material and a symbolic dimension — it was about showing the children care, remembrance and support at a particularly hard time in their lives.

Adaptive clothing for the wounded and for veterans

In 2024 Rotary Club Warszawa-Belweder handed over specialist adaptive clothing intended for wounded soldiers and for people undergoing treatment and rehabilitation in Ukraine.

The aid was passed on in cooperation with KZ “Dom Weteranów” RMR and Igor Vashchuk. The clothing then reached hospitals and clinics, where it makes it easier to care for patients with restricted mobility and adds to their comfort during treatment and rehabilitation.

Action begins with people

Behind every project there are people who noticed a need, shared an idea and decided to act together.

In Rotary we bring together experience, contacts and commitment in order to turn good intentions into concrete action.
